Iowa Room – New!

We are excited to announce the opening of our newly remodeled Iowa Room – the new home of everything related to genealogy and local history!

The Iowa Room contains hundreds of books about local and regional history including county histories, cemetery records, and books about early Council Bluffs. The room is also the new home for the Library’s microfilm records and equipment.

Bringing all of these local history and genealogy resources together into one space, the library is now able to offer a one-stop-shop for local history. Previously, these materials were located at various places on the second floor near a busy reference desk and Teen Center. This new space will be quieter, allowing researchers to explore history without distraction.  And the Iowa Room is right next to the library Special Collections – an even larger collection of rare and unique historical records.

The Iowa Room is now available to use anytime – no reservation needed. Just stop in and explore the history of Council Bluffs!
