In 2016, the library began the process of digitizing historical Council Bluffs newspapers, and today we are excited to announce that the project is now complete! Members of the Council Bluffs Public Library can now search every issue of the Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil from 1852 – 2018, through one easy-to-use interface.
The community has downloaded over 100,000 historical news articles since the library started scanning historical newspapers. Last month alone, there were 14,483 historical articles downloaded.
This important project will ensure that these historically significant documents will be available for researchers, educators, genealogists, and students for decades to come.
We are also excited to announce that the archive now has a new, user-friendly interface. With this new interface, and this newly added content, it is now easier than ever to explore the rich history of Western Iowa.
This project was made possible by the generous support of the Council Bluffs Library Foundation, the Iowa West Foundation, The Union Pacific Foundation, The Pottawattamie County Community Foundation, and Council Bluffs Noon Rotary.
Visit the Local History page and scroll to “The Daily Nonpareil” to search over 160 years of Council Bluffs history! Give it a try. You never know what you might discover.
