The Council Bluffs Public Library is proud to present a four-part hands-on oral history workshop, led by Jade Rogers, professor and local historian. Whether you have a loved one in mind you wish to interview or would like to volunteer to help preserve our local history, this workshop will provide the essentials of conducting and recording an oral history interview.
Oral histories have long been an important way for information to be passed from one generation to the next. Oral histories offer a unique way to contribute to the historical record by providing firsthand accounts. By recording oral histories, we are able to preserve that record.
Participants may already have someone they would like to interview, but an interview subject is not necessary to participate in this workshop. Outside of the workshop, opportunities will be available to apply the techniques learned for conducting and recording oral history interviews.
The Library is partnering with the 712 Initiative to help gather stories about historic buildings
of Council Bluffs. If you would like to help with this project, please indicate on your registration form that you would be willing to volunteer to conduct an oral history interview with a subject identified by a partnering organization.
All workshop sessions will be held in Meeting Room B from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturdays, August 6, 13, 20, and 27. Space is limited. Register here for this free workshop.
