Pocket Prairie Plant Giveaway!

Did you know one out of every three bites of food we eat depends on pollinators?

Did you know the Rusty Patched Bumblebee, native to Iowa, is on the Endangered Species List?

Did you know Monarch Butterflies migrate to Mexico every fall and need fuel to make the trip?

Did you know modern cultivars often offer nothing for pollinators?

We didn’t either, but now we do and we have to do something about it!

The Library is excited to offer our second annual Pocket Prairie Giveaway!  Native plants offer the best nectar, pollen, and habitat for our native pollinators. Planting native plants (and not using chemicals in our yards) is the best thing we can do for our pollinators.

80 households can sign up to receive a flat of 12 plants native to the prairies of Iowa. To participate in the giveaway, you must have a library card with the Council Bluffs Public Library and live in Pottawattamie County. For a complete list of plants with their care requirements and simple planting guides, click here.

Sign up here by April 6.

This program is made possible through a partnership with Council Bluffs Public Library and Midwest Natives Nursery. It is funded by the Council Bluffs Public Library Foundation.
