We have so much to offer this summer and we hope you’re as excited as we are! Programs start the week of June 11th.
For the 5 & under crowd:
Story time will be changing up a little bit this summer–we like to keep you on your toes! Stories Alive for Under 5 will have two sessions on Monday mornings (9:45 and 10:30) and one session on Thursday mornings (10:30). Story time is 30 minutes and includes stories, movement, and fun.
On Tuesday mornings, the 5 & unders can enjoy music, dance, art, and sensory activities. Please see our calendar for specific times and details about these programs.
For kids 4 years old – 6th grade:
Monday & Wednesdays are your days to join us for SO MUCH FUN! Every Wednesday morning we have a different event scheduled for our school-age crowd. There will be magic, ice cream, booger slime, and so much more!
We also have some evening programs for the whole family that we hope will be of special interest to our working families, including visits from Henry Doorly Zoo, Fontenelle Forest, and the Omaha Children’s Museum.
For all ages:
Remember though, there’s a lot to do here at the library every hour we’re open, not just during program times. Stop by the Youth Room and enjoy our interactive play area for children under 8–this summer we’ll feature an airport and a farmer’s market. Our staff works hard to design this area for F-U-N. We highly encourage imaginative play at the library because it’s so important for your child’s development, but this area is also designed to incorporate literacy skills (math, matching, pattern recognition, reading, etc.).
We also offer the opportunity to play blocks or puzzles, engineer a cabin from Lincoln Logs, play with our dollhouse family, and so much more!
And for our very youngest patrons, we have a brand new enclosed play space. This area has been designed with children 24 months and younger in mind. For their safety and in fairness to all of the children in our space, please do not allow older siblings to play in this area.
And while you’re here taking part in all of our fabulous activities, remember that statistics suggest that children who do not read over the summer experience a loss of up to 2 months worth of reading achievement. Check out books from our wonderful collection and participate in the Summer Reading Club to fight off the “summer slide,” and because books broaden horizons!
