World War I Posters on Display

2017 is the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entry into World War I, and to mark the occasion the Council Bluffs Public Library is displaying a collection of WWI propaganda posters. The posters, on loan from the State Historical Society of Iowa, feature several national pieces and two that were unique to Iowa.

Prior to radio, newspaper ads and poster broadsides were the chief means of communicating ideas to the public. Posters, often placed in post offices, banks and businesses, played a key role in securing the country’s support for WWI.

The posters are on display on the second floor of the library through April 30th.
