Description

Lori Vicker, retired reading specialist, will give a presentation on the historical era known as the Orphan Train Movement, that took place in the US during 1854-1929.

More than 200,000 orphan children, boys and girls up to age 14, from urban cities in the East, were sent on trains westward. Trains stopped in all but Buena Vista and Lee counties in Iowa on their way west. Lori travels the state sharing her interest and enthusiasm for this little known, forgotten era of history. Her display includes vintage children’s clothing similar to what might have been worn while traveling.

A bibliography will be provided to highlight popular non-fiction and historical fiction for your reading interest.

This event is free and open to the public.
