Welcome! The Friends of the Council Bluffs Public Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports the programs and services of the library. You can help your library by attending our annual book sale, visiting our book store or volunteering at our bookstore located in the library. Follow us on Facebook to keep updated on Friends events.
By joining the Friends, you will help support programming at the library, as well as staff training and development. You will be invited to participate in exclusive Friends activities and events. Come in and fill out a membership form or join online using PayPal below.
Materials can be donated to the Friends of the Council Bluffs Public Library. Donated materials are not guaranteed to end up in the Library’s collection and may be sold in the Friends Bookstore or the annual book sale. Generated funds will be used to support the programs and services of the Library.
The Library accepts donations on behalf of the Friend’s of the Public Library. Book donations will only be accepted at the front desk during business hours of the library. No dumping is allowed.
Book donations will be limited to 1 plastic grocery sack of items.
The following items will not be accepted for donations:
- Tapes of any type (VHS, cassette, etc.)
- Activity books (coloring, sticker, word games, etc.)
- Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Textbooks
- Reader’s Digest condensed books

Magazines or bound magazines

Any dirty or moldy items
For any larger amounts of donations, arrangements must be made with the Friends by emailing friends@

Each fall the Friends sponsor a massive book sale held at the Council Bluffs Public Library. This event is free and open to the public, and proceeds support library programs and services. Members of the Friends enjoy special, exclusive pre-sale entrance. Interested in volunteering? Call 712-323-7553 (ext. 4006) or fill out our volunteer application.
The Friends of the Library Bookstore at the front of the library features great books at low prices. Stop in to see our current selection of new books! The bookstore is staffed by volunteers, and hours are subject to change. The store is usually staffed Monday 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Tuesday 12:00 PM – 3:30 PM, Thursday 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM & 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, Friday 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM and Saturday 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.
