Sing Me A Song

Between India and China, lies Bhutan. It had not had electricity or internet until late 1999. In this fascinating documentary (with striking cinematography), director Thomas Balmes follows a young Buddhist (aged 7 at the beginning) and documents his teenaged years after given access to social media, smartphones, and internet cafes. The boy forges a relationship over WeChat, and we come to see the struggles he faces in choosing which path forward he should take. This documentary will give one pause to ponder over how technology changes some of the most remote places in the world and how these same technologies affect our daily lives.
