Join us for "Etched in Stone," presented by Dr. Richard Warner of the Historical Society of Pottawattamie County.
This presentation will use the historical markers and monuments around Council Bluffs as a gateway to explore distinctive moments in our city's history. These markers reflect what people at the time considered important, offering a unique perspective that can differ from our current view of local history. Learn to view these historical markers in a new light, understanding them as more than just slabs of granite.
Attendees will learn about: Abraham Lincoln's visit, the Mormon Battalion, the 1952 and 2019 floods, the first building in the city, the arrival of the Potawatomi, the expansion of Lake Manawa, the channelization of Indian Creek, and more.
This program is free and open to the public, presented in partnership with the Historical Society of Pottawattamie County.
