From the Biographical History of Pottawattamie County, Iowa:

William Henry Mills Pusey was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania in 1826. He graduated from college in 1847 and then studied law in Pittsburg and Springfield, IL.

Henry F. Plumer was born October 8, 1828 in Hanover Germany. When he was twelve his family immigrated to America and settled in Missouri.

Sophia was born in 1835 in Ohio, the daughter of German immigrants.

Henry H. and Lavinia Oberholtzer were both born in Pennsylvania. Henry in 1825 and Lavinia Reist in 1834. When Lavinia was 20 years old she married Henry and a year later they were in Council Bluffs.

J. J. and Eliza Newton arrived in Council Bluffs in 1858. They made their way from Iowa City with an ox team.

William Wirt Maynard came to Council Bluffs in 1854 along with Jeremiah Folsom. The two men walked from Michigan and brought a large herd of sheep with them.

Joseph Lyman was born in 1840 in Lyon, Michigan. His family moved to Defiance, Ohio where Joseph grew up. He graduated from high school in 1856 and began teaching school at the age of 16.
Joseph received a scholarship to West Point but turned it down to study law.
